Producer and Author Eric Sherman sat down with me again, this time to talk about ‘Directing’. In this interview Eric talked about Responsibility, Confidence, Clarity and a healthy amount of insanity… all ingredients he feels a director needs to have. Oh… and of course the willingness to answer a thousand questions during a shooting day!
Eric is a good friend, a former teacher, but more so a bestselling author of the books ‘Directing the Film’, ‘Selling Your Film’ and ‘Frame by Frame’.
Eric’s father, the late Vincent Sherman has directed over 50 Hollywood films and worked with some of Hollywood’s most glamorous stars, including Bette Davis, Ronald Reagan, Ida Lupino, Errol Flynn, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth, Glenn Ford, Paul Newman and Ava Gardner to name a few.
Eric coaches Writers, Producers and Directors and teaches Film Production, Film Financing and Film Distribution at the Art Center College of Design.

My film mentor/guru Eric Sherman lays it down like a Jazz musician. Always from the hip, and never having to think-out what he says because he knows all the best musical licks by heart. He’s the “Charles Mingus” of filmmaking.

Hej, I like the picture Eric has drawn in this great interview. The director is the captain of the ship – he is the one who envisions the harbour to land in and he is guiding the team and the ship towards this goal – from A to B. I know, Eric, Your are a great captain.
